Our first week in Yellowknife is just about wrapping up. It has been quite warm since we got here (it is currently -15C), which has meant good walking conditions to work. However, this warmth has also resulted in poor aurora viewing conditions (too cloudy!). On Saturday we took advantage of the warmth and explored Yellowknife by foot. We checked out the visitor centre, Northern Heritage Centre, and the NWT Legislative Building before heading inside for lunch. We took the long way home, popped into a gift shop, and checked out Ragged Ass Road.

This morning, we finally gave the car a much deserved wash to remove over 5000km of road dirt, and went for a quick XC ski on Great Slave Lake.

Rather than bore you with words, here are some pictures:

Can you spot the diamond? This sculpture is made from Kimberlite, and the diamond resting on it (the 'Legendary Sky Diamond') went to space with Julie Payette in 2009.

This was the dirt when we reached High Level, AB. By the time we reached Yellowknife the thick brown parts had extended to the door handles.
