You might be wondering what Canada Day is like in the north? Or not. Regardless, we are going to share our Canada Day festivities with you.

First, we hit up the Yellowknife Canada Day parade hosted by the Rotary Club. You have to love the small town vibe that brings about Canada Day parades. They really do tend to only happen in smaller towns, right? Surprisingly, we were quite impressed with the length of the parade and the number of people decked out in red and white that came out for it. Our highlights were the mounties and Sparky.

We then headed down to Somba K’e Park for a special Yellowknife Farmer’s Market. We wandered around through the busiest market we have attended to date and had a delicious food truck lunch provided by One of a Thai. We then listened in on some music and speeches and watched the citizenship ceremony.

After our morning surrounded by lots of people, we decided we wanted a quieter, serene afternoon to enjoy the mid-week holiday. We drove on out to Vee Lake - within city limits and only about a 15 minute drive from downtown. We paddled around the lake for awhile and enjoyed the calm waters of the day. We also stopped to take some photos, obviously.
